5 Ways To Get Back On Track After A Binge

I’m the first to admit that I do love delicious food and sometimes find myself overindulging. It is simply not sustainable to never let yourself have something that tastes so good which offers no nutritional benefit. However, sometimes we can overdo it and can even find yourself binging on healthy food. There can be this overwhelming sense of guilt and you are left feeling bloated and sluggish.

Get back on track after a binge

If you do find that you have overindulged, there are ways that you can get back on track after a binge. Here are 5:

Commit To A Quick Rebound

Does your overindulgent Friday night spiral into the whole weekend and you will get back on track on Monday? It's always best to hit the reset button as soon as possible. Make sure the next meal you get back on track with your healthy eating.

Drink Loads Of Water

If you ate lots of your favourite salty snack or drank way too many cocktails the night before then your body needs water to recover. Drink a big glass of water when you wake up and aim for at least another 2 litres throughout the day.

Move Your Body

When you are hungover (or have a sugar hangover) the last thing you want to do is a workout! Doing a workout will not only help you feel better (ok maybe not at the time) but it will help you get back on track and help you burn some of those extra calories you consumed.

Don't Skip Meals

You may think that skipping meals the next day will help cut back on calories and make up for the binge eating or drinking but it can actually backfire and create a cycle of overeating and restriction. It's best to make sure the next meal is full of fresh whole foods that will nourish your body.

Realise It’s No Big Deal

It's no major catastrophe if you have a binge every now and then. Don’t think the day is lost and eat even more junk food since you have already eaten something that isn’t great for you. When you know you are going to eat some really crap food, try and enjoy it without the guilt. Eat slowly and make sure you are limiting the distractions around you to avoid making yourself sick from overeating.

Yes, you can get back on track after a binge!

The occasional binge will in no way ruin your healthy lifestyle goals.

Its when the binging is happening on a regular basis then it can cause some major health problems. It’s important to get back on track quickly and not let it spiral out of control.
